5 quintal suspected synthetic cheese seized in raids

Hoshiarpur, Nov 7 (UNI) A team of local health officials seized 5 quintals of suspected synthetic cottage cheese today in a raid on a dairy in Mohalla Singhpura of Urmur (Tanda).

Civil Surgeon, Hoshiarpur, Dr Kamaljeet Kaur said that the officials, acting on a tip-off, raided the premises of Satnam Dairy, and seized the cheese suspected to have been adulterated.

The samples of the seized cottage cheese had been sent to Government Laboratory, Chandigarh to ascertain its quality, she said.

The health department is making raids in suspected dairies, to check the incidence of adulteration in view to meet a large demand for 'chhena' and 'khoya' by sweetmakers during the festive season.

The department had already seized as many as 8 samples of Khoya and Cheese in Hoshiarpur and Tanda, which had been sent to the Government Labortary.

One milk delivery van had been intercepted at Khadiala Sainian and 11 qunital of milk and 4 Kg. cheese had been seized on November 5.

She appealed to the people to inform the District Health Authorities, Hoshiarpur in case they had any information regarding the sale and manufacturing of synthetic dairy products.
