1 policeman transferred, 2 suspended over gambling issue
Vadodara, Nov 7 (UNI) Police Commissioner P C Thakur today transferred a Police Inspector of Wadi police station and suspended an assistant sub-inspector and a constable over failure to check gambling under their jurisdiction.
The Commissioner passed the transfer order of PI P J Sarang this evening. Earlier in the day, he suspended ASI Vikram Dalpatbhai and constable Azan Ragunath Surti.
Mr Sarang has been shunted out to the Traffic department, while Mr Chaudhary of the said department will assume the charge of the PI.
The ASI and constable were suspendend following a vigilance squad report to the Police Commissioner that they had failed to check the gambling racket under their jurisdiction.
The Wadi police station came under the scanner when a gambling racket was busted yesterday afternoon by a vigilance squad from Ahmedabad and raided the Gajrawadi area falling under Wadi police jurisdiction when a game of gamble was on. The vigilance team submitted a report to the Police Commissioner pinning the blame on the Wadi police and especially the two policemen -- Dalpatbhai and Surti, who could have checked the gambling activity as they knew about it.
The vigilance squad had seized Rs 31,800 in cash and arrested eight people, including the kingpin Lalji Rabari, in this connection.
