Voter registration validity challenged in HC

Allahabad, Nov 6 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court has directed the Election Commission of India to file a counter affidavit by November 12 on a writ petition challenging the notice dated October 1 issued by the Electoral officer, Allahabad Jhansi division, notifying the procedure for enrolment of voters of graduate constituency under the registration of Election rolls 1960.

The order was passed by a division bench comprising Justices H L Gokhle and Rakesh Tiwari on a writ petition filed by Keshav Dev Tripathi and others.

The Court has summoned the other four writ petitions pending before the Lucknow bench, pertaining to the same issues at the Allahabad HC.

Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, senior advocate V C Mishra assisted by Vivek Mishra, submitted a writ that petitioners would like a new role to be prepared in accordance with the procedure set by the Election Commission, but thereafter, only additions or deletion be permitted.
