Kolkata, Nov 6 (UNI) SUCI president Provash Ghosh today dismissed Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's claim that 1500 party workers were sheltered in relief camps following violence in Nandigram.

Talking to newspersons here, he alleged that the Chief Minister's claim was totally wrong and the latter was trying to hoodwink the people by claiming of Maoist involvement in the area.

''We have urged the Chief Minister several times to submit a list of the homeless, but are yet to receive it, '' he said.

He said the situation in Nandigram was serious and the CPI(M)-led Left Front government and police had totalled failed to control it, adding the CPI(M) activists would try to recapture land in Nandigram with the help of the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF).

''We are appealing to the intellectuals, educationists and the people in general to come on the streets to foil the government's atempt for land acquisition, '' he stated.

''We have started weeklong 'Save Nandigram' from today and a party delegation will meet Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi tomorrow, seeking his intervention in this regard, '' Mr Ghosh said.
