Chennai, Nov 6 (UNI) A man found moving suspiciously outside the AIADMK supremo and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence was nabbed by the security officials and handed over to the police last night.

Police sources told UNI that after extensive investigation, the person Kannan (25) was found to be mentally deranged.

He was sent to the home for mentally retarded at suburban Kovalam on the ECR road this evening.

The man entered Poes Garden from Cathedral Road at around 1900 hrs last evening. Kannan was found loitering before actor Rajnikant's house in the same locality, police said.

When Kannan was chased by securitymen, he left the place and was later found moving near the residence of Ms Jayalalithaa.

He was nabbed by the security personnel. Upon questioning, Kannan gave unconvincing replies and contradicted his own statement.

Kannan said he hailed from Kunnathur, a village near Thirumangalam in Madurai district, and came here to meet Rajnikant and seek a job.

Kannan was handed over to Teynampet police, who found him to be mentally unsound and decided to send him to the home for mentally retarded.

The incident came close on the heels of an unidentified person intruding into the residence of Ms Jayalalithaa on October 16, hoodwinking the security cordon. He managed to sneak into the house and went up to the first floor library, where he was spotted by the inmates.

The issue generated much heat in the State politics, with the AIADMK supremo alleging that it was a conspiracy and also moved the High Court seeking enhanced security.

The Government told the High Court that she had been provided with a bullet-proof car on November 3.
