Food grains meant for public distribution seized

Akola, Maharashtra, Nov 6 (UNI) Several quintals of food grains meant for public distribution to poor people on Diwali were seized from Barshitakli and Akot tehsil town in last 48 hours during raids conducted at private godowns.

Almost 260 quintals of foodgrains were seized near Kanheri Sarap village on Akola-Baristakli road yesterday in a joint raid conducted by the police and the supplies officials.

Three persons, Abdul Aziz, Santosh Haribhu Dongre and Asif Khan, were caught red-handed while adulterating wheat and rice and have been taken into custody. As much as 207 quintals of wheat and 30 quintals of rice, worth Rs 128,000, were seized. Investigations have revealed that the food grains belong to one Gopal Kakad, who had allegedly taken a farm house on rent for storing the food grains.

In another raid conducted on Sunday last, 160 quintals of wheat were seized from a private godown near Akola Anjangoan road.

The persons arrested from the scene have been identified as Nasir Khan, Gabbu Shah, Babli Shah, Sheikh Mahboob, Sheikh Habib, A Faruk, Abdul Hamid, Pandurang Khawleand and Vilas Tayde.
