CEO directs SDMs to select polling staff

Agartala, Nov 6(UNI) The State Electoral Officer has directed the District Magistrates and SDMs to prepare lists of polling staff for the coming Assembly Election.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) GSG Ayyangar said yesterday that they had already asked all District Magistrates and SDMs to send the lists of polling staff by November 15.

The department will select polling staff from both registered employees' bodies of Congress and CPI(M) following directive from the Election Commission.

According to the EC, office bearers of employees' body should be selected for polling staff to ensure free and fair election.

Dr Ayyangar said the state needed about 12,000 polling staff and they would be picked up from 'state and central government employees working in the state'.

The CEO also said district and subdivision level office bearers of registered employees' bodies would not be engaged in conducting election. Polling personnel will not be informed about their destinations until they receive Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and electoral rolls.
