BSNL's mobile switching centre now functional from Andaman

Port Blair, Nov 6 (UNI) State-owned BSNL today installed its CDMA's mobile switching centre with a capacity of 50,000 lines here connecting 63 stations in the island.

The new facility, set up with an investment of Rs 13.25 crore offers SMS, Voice Mail, internet, location based services, pre-paid services etc, allowing customers to have limited mobility within SDCA (Short distance charging area), said BSNL's Chief General Manager Atanu Ghosh.

There are two SDCA's in A&N Telecom circle, Andaman SDCA and Nicobar SDCA, Andaman SDCA comprises of South, Middle and North Andaman districts. Nicobar SDCA comprises of entire southern group of islands. There are 547 census villages in the island and BSNL has provided telecom facility in 213 villages and remaining 334 villages are yet to be covered.
