8 held for statue desecration

Rajapalayam, Tamil Nadu, Nov 6 (UNI) Eight people were today arrested in connection with the desecration of the statue of freedom fighter and Thevar leader Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar.

Police said the arrested include Surya Mahraja of Melakunnakkudi, Ramamurthy and Karuppasamy of Murambu, Muthuramalingam, Sivagurunathan and Kaliraj of Asilapuram.

The statue was desecrated at Velayudhapuram village in Tirunelveli district on November 3.

Those arrested have been remanded in custody, police added.
