Villagers torch vehicles after boy killed in accident

Durg, Chhattisgasrh, Nov 5 (UNI) Violence broke out at Rasmada village, about eight km from here, after a 10-year-old boy was crushed to death by a speeding truck on national highway this afternoon.

Trouble began after Devendra, son of Prem Nirmalkar, was run over by a speeding truck on Durg-Rajnandgaon national highway.

Agitated villagers first set ablaze the truck involved in the accident and later torched a fire brigade vehicle, forcing police to resort to canecharge to disperse the mob, which also targetted many other vehicles.

The violent mob set ablaze seven vehicles, including a diesel tanker and another lorry, which was carrying motor cycles.

Huge police force had been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. District collector Subrto Sahu and Superintendent of Police Rajesh Mishra were also camping in the village.

''The situation is tense but under control,'' the police said.
