Tea auction at Kolkata registers good demand

Kolkata, Nov 05 (UNI) The tea auction, held here from October 29 to November two, which auctioned CTC, Darjeeling, Orthodox and Dust tea, registered good demand overall and the sale was conducted at firm rates.

A Kolkata Brokers' Joint Statistics department release issued here today stated that 89,349 packages, containing 27,80,093 kgs Darjeeling tea, were auctioned in which Major Blender lended good support and Tata Tea did selective buying.

Similarly, 7,293 packages, containing 1,70,092 kgs Darjeeling tea, were auctioned in which Major Blender was active and some enquiry from other large packeteers and local dealers, the release added.

About 36,242 packages, containing 8,41,499 kgs Orthodox tea, were auctioned in which CIS shippers were active with fair support from Middle East. Besides, Major Blender operated on fannings and a few smaller brokens and North India buyers were outpriced while local dealers were selective.

About 30,334 packages, containing 10,81,201 kgs Dust tea, were auctioned in which Major Blender and Tata Tea lended good support and Western India buyers were active, the release added.
