Swami Gahananandaji cremated

Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) The mortal remains of Swami Gahanananda, the 14th president of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, were consigned to flames today.

The last rites of the monk, who passed away yesterday at the age of 91, were performed near the banks of the Hooghly river at Belur Math, the Mission's global headquarters.

Thousands of people, including his disciples, thronged the Math to pay their last trikbute to the departed soul.

Swami Gahanananda was elected president of the Ramkrishna Math and Mission in May 2005 succeeding Swami Ranganathananda.
