97 fishermen released

Thanjavur, Nov 5 (UNI) All the 97 fishermen, belonging to Akkarai Pettu, Keecherikuppu and Nambiyar Nagar in the Nagapattinam district, have been released by Sri Lankan Navy.

The fishermen, who went for fishing, were captured by Sri Lankan Navy for straying into their territorial waters on October 30 last.

The fishermen along with their boats were apprehended by the navy to Kangaru port area.

Efforts were taken by the Tamil Nadu Government and the Centre through the Sri Lankan Embassy who paved way for their release.
