Wheels of fortune favour passengers as bus wheels snap

Chennai, Nov 4 (UNI) About 30 passengers of a Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus had a miraculous escape when four rear wheels of the vehicle came off at the busy Kamarajar Salai on the Marina today.

Official sources said a tragedy was averted as the driver started the vehicle after halting at the signal near the Kannagi Statue.

As the bus moved from the signal, all the four wheels snapped and the rear side sunk with a big thud with the vehicle running amok.

However, with his presence of mind, the driver tactfully manoeuvered to halt.

All the passengers escaped unhurt and lauded the presence of the mind of the driver in bringing the vehicle to safety.

Bus 21-D was on its way to Kannagi Nagar from Parry's Corner area.

Traffic on the busy road was affected for some time following the mishap.

If the bus had come at full speed, it would have resulted in a major mishap, said one of the passengers.
