Two dozen people injured in clash in Haryana

Jind, Nov 4 (UNI) As many as 24 people including two policemen, were injured in a clash between villagers and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC) officials in Singpura village in the district today.

According to the police, the clash took place when SGPC officials tried to take possession of a piece of agricultural land in the village. The villagers resisted the attempt claiming that the land belonged to the panchayat.

This led to a clash between the two sides and the policemen on duty had a tough time in restoring order. SGPC officials showed legal documents claiminmg possession of the land. The DC, SP and other senior officials reached the site soon after the clash.

SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar who reached the spot warned the district administration of dire consequences if the land was not handed over to the SGPC. The district administration has imposed section 144 in the village and taken control of the disputed site.

Police claimed that a case had been registered but so far no arrests had been made.
