Punjab launches scheme for improving wheat seed

Moga, Nov 5 (UNI) The Punjab State Agriculture Department has launched the ''Village Adoption Scheme'' aimed at providing quality certified wheat seeds to the farmers at subsidised rates.

Under this scheme, eight villages from each block of the state would be selected for seed distribution. Sixty farmers from each of the selected villages would be given 20 kg certified PBW-502 wheat seed on 50 per cent subsidy.

Stating this here today Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Palwinder Singh Aulakh disclosed that the scheme aimed at improving the wheat seed quality in the state. Gradually more villages would be brought under this scheme, he added.

He stated that certified quality wheat seed will be distributed among the identified farmers in coordiation with the village panchayats. Beside the selected farmers would also be provided technical knowledge on the sowing methods, he added.
