Islamabad,
Nov
4:
Pakistan's
government
is
committed
to
holding
national
elections
but
was
undecided
when,
Prime
Minister
Shaukat
Aziz
said
today,
a
day
after
emergency
powers
were
invoked
to
deal
with
militancy
and
a
hostile
judiciary.
''We are committed to making sure that elections are held and that democratic process flourishes in Pakistan,'' Aziz told a news conference. ''As a result of what has happened there could be some timing differences but no decision has been made.'' He said the emergency announced on Saturday by President Pervez Musharraf would be as short as possible. He said 400-500 people are being held under preventive detentions.
