Foundation for main podium laid for 74th Kannada sammelan

Udupi, Nov 4 (UNI) Foundation stone for +Mahamantap+ of 74th Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held here from December 12 to 15 was laid at ALN Rao stadium here today.

To mark the occasion of hosting the Sammelan for the second time after a gap of 47 years, 74 fruit yielding saplings were also planted around the stadium on the occasion.

Giving details on the arrangements for the Sammelan, the general secretary of the reception committee of the Sammelan U Chandrashekar Holla said that over 90 per cent the work on the arrangements for the Sammelan including publication of 74 books, accommodation and food arrangements for the delegates coming from Karnataka and outside the state had already been completed.

He said that the committee was expecting at least 75,000 people every day during the four days of the conference and arrangements were on full swing to provide them all with delicious Udupi variety food to which the Udupi Asta Mutt and Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP) had come forward with contributions.

Besides this, major financial institutions including commercial banks from the area had also promised contributions in addition to contribution of one day salary by the employees of the state government.

Mr Holla said that there would be two pendals for holding sessions and cultural programmes. The main +Mahamantap+ would be named after the great writer, novelist and Jnanpeet awardee late Dr.

Shivarama Karanth.

There would eight main gates to the mahamantap which would be named after great personalities of Udupi, he added.
