District Administration asks not to sacrifice animals
Puri, Nov 4: Puri district magistrate R R Pattnaik has directed the priests and managements of various temples of the district to stop animal sacrifice during the coming Kali Puja.
As per tradition and faith many devotees after fulfillment of their wishes carry out the ritual of animal sacrifice during the puja.
A large number of devotees come with their animals to the shrine for the ritul. At some temples the number even crosses more than thousand.
Birapratapur, Biragobindpur and Samjajpur are the prominent Kali peethas where a large number of animal sacrifices are made.
Revenue divisional commissioner S C Mahapatra in a circular also directed the temple management and the devotees to desist from animal sacrifice or else face legal proceedings.
