Auto drivers call off strike in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Nov 4 (UNI) The union of Auto drivers here today called off their strike after Chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy directed Minister for Transport, K Laxminarayana to call for a meeting with the Joint Action Committee of the auto union leaders tomorrow.

The auto drivers were holding the strike demanding that the Government withdraw the decision to instal digital meters in the autos by replacing the existing mechanical meters.

A five-member delegation of Left leaders met Dr Reddy this morning and made a representation to him to hold discussions with auto unions and find a solution to their agitation for the last six days in Hyderabad and Secundarabad.

The Chief Minister assured the delegation that Government is sympathetic towards the auto drivers and has no intention to harass them. The Government was willing to find an early and amicable solution to the agitation, a press release said here.
