2 militants killed, Army bunker attacked in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 4 (UNI) Two militants were killed, a major tragedy averted and an Army bunker was attacked, while a villager was kidnapped in the Kashmir valley overnight, a police spokesman today said.

He said troops challenged a group of two militants at Machil in the frontier district of Kupwara during a search operation. The militants opened fire, which was retaliated by the troops killing both the ultras.

Later, two AK 47 rifles, four AK magazines, 168 AK rounds, eight hand grenades, one 7.62 mm pistol with a magazine, seven pistol rounds, one night vision device, one pouch, one shawl, two Balaclavas, one walkman, one transistor, three identity cards and two bags were recovered from the slain militants.

In another incident, the spokesman said unidentified gunmen fired upon an Army Bunker of 41 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at Kupwara bus stand, injuring a solider Vijay Kumar.

Security forces also retaliated but the militants managed to escape, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir police thwarted a major tragedy when they detected and later defused two live grenades at Ganderbal.

The spokesman said some unidentified unarmed people kidnapped one Farooq Ahmad Mir at Chek-e-Badwani, Qazigund in south Kashmir.
