Journalist beaten by minister's kin in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 3 (UNI) Two days after jounalists were beaten up by a JD(U) legislator in Bihar, a similar incident today occurred in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district where a scribe was thrashed by a minister's kin.

Superintendent of Police Amol V Homkar told UNI over phone from Ramgarh that the incident occurred at about 0200 hrs early today in Rajrappa area during a musical soiree of singer Babul Supriyo and Shefali Jeriwala.

Mr Homkar said Balwant, a reporter of a private news channel, covering the incident was thrashed by one of the event organisers Rajendra Choudhary who injured him on one of his eyes.

Balwant was released after giving medical aid, Mr Homkar added.

Rajendra Choudhary is the brother of state's science and technology minister Chandraprakash Choudhary.

''We have not received any written complaint yet, but will take appropriate action aginst the guilty after receiving complaint,'' the SP said.

Meanwhile, the science and technology minister said his relative was not guilty.
