Fresh production warrant against Abu Salem in MCOCA case

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) A city court today issued a fresh production warrant for December 15 against underworld don Abu Salem in a MCOCA case registered against him in the year 2002 for allegedly attempting to extort Rs 5 crore from a contractor.

According to police, Salem had made a threatening call to contractor Ashok Gupta, a resident of Greater Kailash, demanding Rs 5 crore as protection money.

Police have already filed charges against other five accused-- Pawan Kumar, Babu Bhai, Raju Bhai, Mohammad Ashraf and a woman, Chanchal Mehta.

Salem was declared a procliamed offender in the case in which five of his alleged syndicate members, including a woman, were arrested.

Salem, who is facing trial in eight cases in the country, is lodged in the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai after his extradition from Portugal in 2005.

Additional Sessions Judge Ravinder Kaur issued the production warrant to produce Salem before the court on December 15.
