Dr Prakash bags M S Swaminathan award

Hyderabad, Nov 3 (UNI) National Dairy Research Institute's Dairy Cattle Physiology Head B S Prakash was today conferred the second M S Swaminathan award 2006-07, for his outstanding contributions in the field of agricultural sciences.

Union Minister of State for Human Resources Development D Purandhareswari bestowed the honour on the distinguished scientist, whose outstanding research spanning 29 long years in the field of reproductive physiology had helped to increase milk production in cattle, buffaloes, yaks and mithans.

Dr Prakash was selected for the award comprising a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh and a citation by a committee, headed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) former Special Director General M V Rao.

Dr Prakash, winner of several national and international awards, had also published many of his researches in various journals of national and international repute.

The award in the name of noted farm scientist Dr M S Swaminathan, one of the architects of the Green Revolution in the country, was instituted in 2005 by Retired ICAR Employees Association and the Nuziveedu Seeds (Ltd) to provide recognition to agricultural scientists for their contributions to Indian agriculture.
