Ludhiana, Nov 3 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today assured that all decisions taken by the previous government for the rehabilitation and settlement of 1984 riot victims would be implemented.

He also assured that other problems of the families effected by the riots would also be sorted out at the earliest.

While addressing a largely attended function organised by Danga Peerat Welfare Society, comprising of families of riot victims at Urban Estate here, Mr Badal held the then Congress government atthe centre responsible for the massacre of Sikhs following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

He alleged that Congress leaders of Delhi and other cities were behind the riots. The then government of the country instead of protecting the lives of the citizens had played partisan role and instigated the people against the Sikhs, he alleged.

The 1984 riots which rendered about 2500 Sikhs homeless reminded many of the 1947 partition riots, he added.

Mr Badal said that all the inquires conducted at various levels including by former Judges of the Supreme Court and other prominent organisations had held a number of senior Congress leaders responsible for the riots. He regretted that even to this day the main conspirators had not been brought to book.

He said that during in earlier tenure he had taken a number of decisions for the rehabilitation of riot victims.
