Three US airmen killed north of Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Nov 2 (Reuters) Three US airmen were killed yesterday during combat operations near the American airbase at Balad, 80 km north of Baghdad, the US military said today.

In a statement, the military said the men were assigned to the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, the counter-intelligence and criminal investigation arm of the airforce. It gave no details on how they were killed.

US military fatalities dropped significantly in October to their lowest level since March 2006. According to the latest figures from the US military, 39 US troops were killed in October.
