OBC quota: SC reserves verdict on pleas

New Delhi, Nov 1: The Supreme Court today reserved its judgment on the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the law providing 27 percent reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in higher educational institutions.

A five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan concluded the arguments, which had commenced on August 7.

The apex court in its March 29 interim order had stayed the implementation of the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006, providing 27 percent quota for OBC.
