Islamabad, Nov 2: Pakistan's Supreme Court said it will reconvene hearing challenges to President Pervez Musharraf's re-election on Monday, backtracking on an earlier plan to take up the case again on Nov 12 just three days before Musharraf's current term ends.

Justice Javed Iqbal, head of the 11-member bench hearing the objections to Musharraf contesting the presidency while still army chief, said the court had rescheduled because of an ''impression'' its delay had led to feelings of insecurity in the country and fuelled talk Musharraf might invoke emergency powers.

''The court will not take any blame for the controversy being created,'' Iqbal said, wrapping up proceedings today.

He added that efforts would be made to conclude the case in the shortest possible time.
