SPO killed in Kishtwar encounter

Jammu, Oct 31 (UNI) A Special Task Force (STF) officer was killed in an encounter in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.

Sources said on a specific information, troops of 11 Rashtriya Rifles, STF and Police launched an operation wherein three militants of Hizbul Mujaheedin got trapped, resulting into a fierce gun battle in village Malkinar in Chatroo tehsil of Kishtwar district.

''Acting on a tip-off security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation,'' sources told UNI, adding that they retaliated the fire in which a Special Police Officer identified as Shamas-u-Din was killed.

However, the encounter was underway till the last reports poured in, sources added.
