Price Index increased

Shimla, Oct, 31 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW) on base 2001-100 for the month of September, 2007 remained stationary at 133 points.

During September, 2007 the index recorded an increase of six points in Jabalpur centre, five points in Jalpaiguri centre, four points in Labac Silcher centre, three points in four centres, two points in seven centres and one point in 25 centres. The index decreased by three points in Goa centre, two points each in Bhopal and Mundakayam centres and by one point in 12 centres while in the remaining 24 centres the index remained stationary.

The increase of six points in Jabalpur centre is mainly on account of increase in the prices of rice, wheat, arahar dal, mustard oil, groundnut oil, goat meat, fish fresh, milk buffallo, onion, medicine, school books and college fees, tailoring charges, wheat atta, mustard oil, onion, vegetable and fruit items, firewood etc. The decrease of three points in Goa centre is mainly due to decrease in the prices of rice, poultry, fish fresh, vegetable and fruit items.

The indices in respect of the six main centres are as follows : Ahmedabad (131), Bangalore (137), Chennai (125), Delhi (132), Kolkata (136) and Mumbai (136).

The point to point rate of inflation, based on the CPI-IW on base 2001-100 has decreased from 7.26 per cent in August, 2007 to 6,40 per cent in September, 2007.
