Mumbai, Oct 30 (UNI) More than a thousand people protested today near Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in South Mumbai, against the Maharashtra government's decision to abolish the Urban Land Ceiling Act (ULCA), in the coming assembly session.

The activists of Brihanmumbai Nagri Nivara Abhiyaan, under the leadership of Madhu Advilkar and Vasant Shirale, activists of Mrinal Gore, staged protest, saying that the decision is against the comman man as he would not be able to take advantage of the land that will be freed under the Act.

The ULCA was started by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in the interest of the comman man to have his own accommodation.

The protesters shouted slogans against the government as the police tried to prevent them from distributing pamphlets, that had details of the Act.

The two activists were arrested and then let off after a warning.
