Mother kills 2 children, commits suicide

Chennai, Oct 31 (UNI) A mother killed her two children and committed suicide by setting hereself ablaze unable to bear the death of the eldest daughter, at suburban Tambaram, late last night.

Police said the incident occurred within a couple of hours after Bhavani (20) died due to jaundice.

As Bhavani's father, Radhakrishnan, went out to inform his relatives about the death, his wife Ramarathnam (50), daughter Meenakshi (19) and son Ganapathy (18) wept inconsolably.

Suddenly, Ramarathnam took Meenakshi and Ganapathy to the kitchen, doused them with kerosene and set them ablaze and then followed suit.

Acting on information, the police rushed to the spot and found Ramarathnam charred to death.

Meenakshi and Ganapathy were admitted to hospital where they succumbed.
