Milk rates hiked by Rs 1.50 per litre

Mumbai, Oct 31 (UNI) The Maharashtra cabinet today gave the 'go ahead' to the long pending demand of milk producers to hike the milk purchase rates.

The present rate of cow milk is Rs nine and it has been hiked by Rs 1.50 per litre. Similarly, for milk having upto 4.2 per cent fat, the rise will be 30 paise per litre and upto 4.5 per cent fat, the rise will be 20 paise per point per litre. The decision will be applicable from November one.

The rate of Buffalo milk has been increased from Rs 12.20 paise per litre to Rs 14.20 paise.

Milk federations/institutions collecting milk less than 50,000 litre will be given commission of 55 paise per litre.

To control milk adulteration, all powers will be given to dairy development commissioner. He will suggest all neccessary amendments to the existing laws.

A committee will be set up to decide a policy on fixing Milk sale-purchase rates and it will review the position frequently and take appropriate decisions.
