Aizawl, Oct 31(UNI) The Mizoram Committee for Democracy in Burma (MCDB) has appealed to the Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee(MKHC), to facilitate a statewide prayer service for an end to military regime in Myanmar.

''We appeal to you (the chairman of MKHC, a committee comprising church leaders of the state) to facilitate a statewide prayer for Burma,'' the appeal letter read.

''The Burmese military junta has been persecuting the people as though they were not living beings, which is totally condemnable according to the Christian teachings,'' the letter said and added, ''The victims are our own neighbour, they belong to the same tribe as us.'' The MCDB alleged that the Indian government has turned a deaf ear to the Burmese political crisis and not contributed anything towards the displaced Burmese people. ''As a result, Mizoram has become the worst sufferers,'' the letter said.

It added that they have informed UN Special Advisor on Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the problems faced by Mizoram due to the political crisis in their neighbouring country.

''While urging the UN Special Advisor to take appropriate steps, the MCDB had also appealed to the Prime Minister not to remain silent towards Burma's internal crisis,'' the letter said.

The MCDB will also meet Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who is scheduled to visit Mizoram in November, to inform him of the situation in Mizoram.
