HC notice to MCI on state rep poll

Jabalpur, Oct 31 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued a notice to the Medical Council of India on a petition challenging the procedure adopted for election of the MCI state representative.

The single judge bench of Mr Abhay Sapre yesterday issued the notice to election officer Dr Ramnani and MCI state registrar on a petition filed by Bhopal's Dr Jayant Yadav, a candidate for state representative.

The judge, however, did not entertain the plea to stay the election scheduled yesterday itself, but directed to complete the election at the earliest.

The petitioner pointed out that the election officer had not published the election programme in government gazette, but in a newspaper of the state. Even the voters list was not updated with latest address as a result of which many voters did not get intimation or ballot paper. Postponement of the election without notice was illegal, he added.
