Govt to set up KMSC to procure medicines, equipment

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 31: The Left Democratic Front government today decided to set up Kerala Medical Services Corporation Limited (KMSC) for procurement and supply of medicines and equipment to the state-run hospitals.

Announcing this after a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister V S Achutanandan told reporters here that Dinesh Arora would be the Managing Director of KMSC.

In a bid to improve higher secondary education in the Malabar region, it was decided to sanction more batches in higher secondary schools and upgrade certain schools. As many as 32 Government high schools would be upgraded to Higher Secondary schools and 15 schools to Vocational Higher Secondary, he said adding 291 new batches had been allotted to 200 government schools.

A moratorium had been declared against recovery of loans from fishermen for six months or till the new Kerala Fishermen Debt Relief Bill was made an Act, he added.
