Auto drivers stage dharna in health centre

Puducherry, Oct 31 (UNI) Tension prevailed at the Kosappalayam Primary Health Centre premises as autorickshaw drivers staged a dharna parking their vehicles inside the premises of the Centre.

According to police a patient who could not walk was brought in an autorickshaw to the health centre and auto driver Murugan, who was the Secretary of the Autorickshaw Workers Association, took the vehicle inside the premises for the convenience of the patient.

A driver attached to the health department reportedly objected to the auto entering the premises and allegedly abused Murugan.

Protesting against this, Murugan summoned other drivers and about 40 autorickshaws entered the premises and and staged a dharna.

Nellitjhoppe Legislator Om Sakthi Segar pacified the drivers.

But they refused to remove their vehicles and demanded an appology from the health department driver.

Later, the department driver tendered an appology, following which the autorcickshaws were cleared from the premises.
