Sambalpur, Oct 31 (UNI) Posing as police personnel, armed miscreants today looted Rs 50 lakh from the employees of the Union Bank of India(UBI) at Charmal, about 45 km from here.

The miscreants fled with the cash and the vehicle after taking the bank officials to a dense forest at gun point near Charmal and administered them with some sedative dose.

The local villagers spotted the Bank officials and a guard lying unconscious inside the forest with hands tied up. Police, on being informed about the incident, rushed to the site and rescued them.

Police said the UBI officials were carrying the cash from Rourkela and on their way to Bhubaneswar when four miscreants in police uniform followed them and ask the driver to stop the vehicle.

The miscreants then asked the driver to show the papers of the vehicle and the driving license. They directed the driver to follow them and come to the nearby police station.

Taking advantage of a secluded place, the miscreants overpowered the Bank officials and the lone security guard at gun point near Sukhapol and looted the cash. They also took away the vehicle along with them and fled from the scene.

Police had launched a combing operation to nab the miscreants and alerted the Bargarh and the other police stations bordering Chhatishgarh.
