Taliban captures Registan district

Kabul, October 30 (UNI) The Taliban today captured the Registan district in the Western province of Farah after overrunning the district headquarters last night.

Confirming this, district police chief Abdul Rahman Sarjang said 400 Taliban had attacked the district headquarters last night and managed to capture it.

He said one policeman was killed and three others injured in the fighting.The district police chief also said that 7 civilians had been killed by the Taliban after they were accused of helping the police.

Official sources said efforts were on to mount operations in the area to retake control of the district.
