Kolkata, Oct 30 (UNI) Life in West Bengal largely remained unaffected as the SUCI-sponsored 12-hour statewide bandh today passed off evoking little response from the people.

Inspector General of Police(Law and Order) Raj Kanojia said barring a few minor incidents, nothing untoward had been reported from anywhere in the state during the bandh period.

Altogether 405 SUCI supporters had been arrested for obstructing vehicles and railway tracks, he said.

The SUCI had called the bandh in support of a ten-point charter of demands, including adequate compensation to the families of the Nandigram victims, arrest of industrialist Ashok Todi for the death of Rizwanur Rahman and an impartial probe into the corruption in the Public Distribution System (PDS).

Claiming that the bandh was 'total', SUCI state Secretary Provas Ghosh said major section of the state's industrial units remained paralysed while fewer number of vehicles plied on the roads and trains ran with handful of passengers.

Mr Ghosh alleged that CPI(M) cadre and police attacked the bandh supporters in different places leaving altogether 60 injured. He claimed that police arrested 1,588 SUCI activists for participating in the bandh programme.

However, life remained normal in the city x x x picking up from para three of CA 7 ''Agitation-Bengal-SUCI-Bandh''.
