Railways' production units exceed targets

New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Most of the production units of Indian Railways, including Chittranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF), exceeded targets during first half of the current fiscal, amply indicating that the resurgence of the Railways was right on track.

A ministry official today said CLW produced 79 electric locomotives against the target of 76, while Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW), Varanasi produced 118 diesel locomotives against the target of 109 during April-September.

Rail Coach Factory (RCF) built 647 coaches, exceeding the target by two coaches whereas ICF produced 550 coaches against the targets of 552 during the same period. The Bangalore-based Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) produced 62,672 wheels and 20,335 axles during the period against the target of 60,947 wheels and 200,92 axles.

During the month of September this year, CLW, DLW, ICF, RCF and RWF produced 18 electric locomotives, 20 diesel locomotive, 118 coaches, 125 coaches, 12,210 wheels and 1,570 axles respectively against the target of 16 electric locomotives, 18 diesel locomotive, 120 coaches, 1125 coaches, 10850 wheels and 1340 axels.

Except ICF, all other units exceeded the target, the official said.

The punctuality percentage of mail and express trains was 92.0 per cent in Broad Gauge and 99.1 per cent in Metre Gauge during September as compared to 92 per cent and 97.6 per cent respectively during the same period last year.

The Railways realised an amount of Rs. 16 crore during September through ticket checking, which was 9.84 per cent higher than the amount realised during the same period last year.
