Karunanidhi, Jaya pay floral tributes to Muthuramalinga Thevar

Chennai, Oct 30 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today led the people of the state in paying floral tributes to freedom fighter and Forward Bloc leader Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, on the occasion of his centenary celebrations.

Mr Karunanidhi visited Pasumpon, the native village of Thevar in southern Ramanathapuram district this morning, and paid floral tributes, by garlanding his statue.

The Chief Minister, later at an official function, declared open the centenary buildings and distributed welfare assistance to the people to mark the celebrations.

As the day also happened to be the death anniversary of the Thevar leader, Mr Karunanidhi paid his homage by placing a wreath at his memorial.

Leader of the opposition and AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa visited Pasumpon this afternoon.

Accompanied by scores of partymen and Thevar leaders, she garlanded the statue and paid her tribute.

Leaders of various political parties, including Congress leader G K Vasan, PMK President G K Mani, CPI(M) leader N Varadarajan and scores of people from the southern districts thronged Pasumpon and paid floral tributes to the late leader.
