Tight security for 'Thevar Jayanthi'

Ramanathapuram, Oct 29 (UNI) Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Ramanathapuram and Madurai districts ahead of the visit of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to participate in the 'Thevar Jayanthi' celebrations, .

Mr Karunanidhi will lead the state in the birth centenary celebrations of veteran freedom fighter the late Muthuramalinga Thevar, the icon of the dominant Thevar community tomorrow at Pasumpon village, near here. He was the leader of the All India Forward Bloc and revered as a hero by ''Kallar'', ''Maravar'' and ''Ahamudaiyar'', otherwise called ''Mukkulothor'' communities.

Thevar Jayanthi is expected to be celebrated with much fanfare this year. AIADMK President and Former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, TNCC (I) President M Krishnaswamy, CPM State Secretary N Varadharajan, CPI State Secretary D Pandiyan, PMK President G K Mani, Actor-turned Politicians Vijayakanth, Karthik and Sarath Kumar were also expected to participate in the function.

Police have made elaborate security arrangements throughout the two districts. Police teams and Swift Action Forces were deployed for bandobust duty. Traffic regulations were also made to control the rush in the districts.

Political parties have been allotted separate time for paying homage to the leader at his memorial.
