Singapore Foreign Minister briefed on Myanmar issue

Singapore, Oct 29 (UNI) United Nations Secretary General's Special envoy to Myanmar Ibrahim Gambari today briefed Singapore's Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo on his six-nation Asian consultation tour in aid of his mission to help bring national reconciliation and a peaceful solution to the situation in Myanmar.

Mr Gambari and Mr Yeo exchanged views on the Myanmar situation, said the Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry in a statement.

The statement said Mr Yeo agreed with Mr Gambari on the importance of concerted international support for the latter's mission in Myanmar.

The Foreign Affairs Minister also shared with Mr Gambari his recent discussions on Myanmar with their counterparts in China and Japan.

Mr Yeo reiterated Singapore's full support for Mr Gambari's continuing efforts at mediation to help the various parties in Myanmar work towards a genuine dialogue that will bring about national reconciliation, said the statement.
