Earthquake hits central Nepal Home

Kathmandu, Oct 29: An earthquake with a magnitude of five on the Richter scale shook parts of central Nepal on Monday. Officials at the National Seismological Centre said the earthquake at round 3:34 p.m had its epicentre at about 30km north-west of Kathmandu in Chandrathali in Nuwakot District.

There was no immediate report of damage or injuries due to the quake that lasted a few seconds.

This is the first time since 1989 that tremors of this magnitude were felt in Kathmandu. Over 700 people were killed in an earthquake in east Nepal in 1988.
