Tiruchirapalli, Oct 28 (UNI) The city-based Society for Community Organisation and People Education (SCOPE) will organise a one-day 'ecosan workshop' here on November 6, in colloboration with Stockholm Environment Institute, Sweden and Waste Netherlands.
SCOPE Director told newspersons today that the object of the workshop was to create an awareness among the people about the ecological sanitation.
He said the sanitation was an integrated and holistic approach to the management of human excreta, utilisation of the rich nutrients in urine and faces to promote sustainable agriculture, prevention of the contamination of surface and ground water and to conserve and preserve the most critical input for human life namely water.
SCOPE Liaison Officer V Ganapathy said they so far constructed over 1,000 Ecosan toilets on the banks of the sacred river Cauvery in and around the district and a few tsunami affected villages in Tamil Nadu.
Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor Ponnavaikko will inaugurate the workshop. Rosemarin Manager Arno and Research and Communications Department SEI Sweden will deliver the keynote address.
