Midwife flees with newly-born infant

Shajapur, MP, Oct 28 (UNI) A midwife fled away with a newly-born infant after relatives of the mother refused to provide her money.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate Narendra Trivedi said Veeragaon-resident Mankunwar reached government hospital in Kanad for delivery. She gave birth to a child last night.

After the delivery, midwife Ashabai demanded Rs 100 and misbehaved when she was refused and fled away with the newly-born.

Later, Mankunwar's husband Atmaram lodged a police complaint.

On receiving information, several villagers and local MLA Rekha Ratnakar reached the hospital. Ashabai continued to misbehave even after the MLA's intervention and returned the baby only after she received the money.

Mr Trivedi said senior officials had been informed about the incident and action would be taken against the culprit.

Ms Ratnakar said she would inform the Health Minister in this regard and demand strict action.
