Lower-strata women unaware of rights: Kanimozhi

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 28 (UNI) A large number of women in the lower strata, bound by the chains of social stigma, were unaware of their rights, DMK Rajya Sabha member and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi said here last night.

Releasing a book 'Ilatchiya Penngal', authored by Shrimati Indira Gandhi College for Women Principal K Meena, she said only after conducting series of agitations women were entrusted with more powers.

Ms Kanimozhi appreciated Dr Meena for including the achievements of M S Subbulakshmi and Papa Umanath in the book.

Dr Meena said the book sketched the achievements of 27 women from various walks of life, who toiled hard to achieve their goals in their fields.

UNI
