Srinagar, Oct 28 (UNI) The Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports (JIMWS) would soon be shifted back to Aru near the famed tourist resort of Pahalgam in north Kashmir, senior officials said today.

The institute was shifted to Batote, about 158 km from here on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway, following the outbreak of violence in the Kashmir valley in late 1980s.

They said three sub-centres would soon come up at Leh in Ladakh division and Bhadarwah and Sanasar in Jammu region.

The officials said the sub-centres would be set up this year and start functioning from next year.

The officials said the process for acquiring land and putting in place other logistics for the sub-centres would commence immediately.

Late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had approved the institute, which completed 25 years of its existence recently.
