Thane, Oct 28 (UNI) The unceremonious removal of four district Congress committees presidents has kicked up a controversy in Maharashtra, prompting them to head to Delhi to meet the Congress high command to plead their case and seek their reinstatement.

The four presidents belong to Thane, Pune, Hingoli and Ratanigiri districts. The team is led by Balkrishna Purnekar, the youngest of the lot and the former President of the Thane district.

The four have, in a memorandum, alleged that they were removed from the party by the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) despite working hard for the party with deep loyalty. They have submitted the copies of the same to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and to the office-bearers of the AICC, besides the presidents of all the state units of the Congress Committee.

The copies of the memo were circulated to the media here just before their departure to the capital.
